Below the Waistline 14

Aimlessly

He turned around with determination. Now, as he walks through the vast halls, a flood of people is coming towards him. He walks quickly and decisively, sensing a new, unforeseen direction.

Yet none of those coming towards him take any notice of him. They are all on autopilot, heading straight for their next scheduled appointment, their remaining attention fixed on their mobile phones.

He, however, draws his resolve from a new perception of this flood of people. It is not easy for him. He is alone in this. As his sense of vulnerability intensifies, he also becomes aware of the tension in his body. His movements take on those of a wild animal that has escaped into the wild after years of captivity in a zoo.

Slowly, he begins to realise that, outwardly, he is no different from those floating along in the current. His tension begins to ease. Playfully, he varies his pace and surrenders completely to his spontaneous impulses. Sometimes he even swims along, wide awake, in the current of the dreamers.
