Crossing the road in the brave new world

He stands hesitantly at the pedestrian crossing. Crossing the road has become a life-threatening business. From the left, the SUVs – which have grown to gigantic proportions – lurk, accelerating at breakneck speed, and from the right, you could get shot. So, for a start, it’s advisable to stay at the back of the queue and watch to see if the people at the front make it across. He knows someone who always has a Kalashnikov at the ready when crossing. Recently, this person used it to send an SUV driver to the afterlife at the very last second. He would have been run over by that vehicle without a second thought. For him, the Kalashnikov isn’t an option. He’s young and peace-loving, as he says, and trusts his keen eye for assessing situations and his lightning-fast reflexes. Once, he even saved someone with a daring leap.

Lately, however, a rumour has been doing the rounds that the snipers on the right will soon be shooting people standing next to the pedestrian crossing as well.
